Herbert Hoover Highway and Johnson Cedar Road Roundabout

LOCATION: West Branch, Johnson County, IA

CLIENT: Johnson County Secondary Roads

PROJECT SUMMARY: 

• Reconstructing Herbert Hoover Highway in Johnson County provided the opportunity to reconstruct this conventional 4-way intersection with limited sight distance and growing safety concerns. Anderson Bogert evaluated intersection configurations that led to selection of a roundabout design. The intersection improvements aimed to improve intersection safety while also accommodating anticipated future developments in the vicinity.
• After the conclusion of the design, Anderson Bogert performed construction observation and construction administration in accordance with Iowa DOT Instructional Memorandums to Local Public Agency’s (IM’s), Iowa DOT Standard Specifications for Highway and Bridge Construction, and the Iowa DOT Construction Manual. Anderson Bogert design, construction administration and inspection kept project on schedule; opening the roundabout before school began in August of 2023.
• Field survey included topographic survey, boundary survey, utility coordination, preparation of plats and exhibits, and assistance with acquisitions.
