Engineering Award for Cedar Valley Nature Trail
Anderson Bogert is pleased to announce that Linn County Conservation and our firm have received an Engineering Excellence Award for the recently constructed Cedar Valley Nature Trail from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Iowa.
This portion of the Cedar Valley Nature Trail, positioned on an old railroad embankment, is 3.5 miles long, and runs from Schultz Road to Ash Lane north of Center Point in Linn County. As part of this project, the trail was upgraded from the existing crushed limestone surface to smooth asphalt in the county and concrete within Center Point. This project was completed within budget, addressed drainage concerns and trail safety at roadway crossings, and provided unique design features in Center Point at the historic depot.
Construction on the Phase 4 segment of the Cedar Valley Nature Trail started in August 2016 and was completed and re-opened in June 2017. Based on increased trail counts, this project has been well received by area trail users.
The Cedar Valley Nature Trail is a key segment of the American Discovery Trail across the United States, which runs from California to Delaware and currently connects Cedar Rapids and Waterloo. The trail extends through the Cedar Rapids metro area via the Cedar River Trail and Hoover Nature Trail, which has also recently been extended south of Ely into Johnson County where continued connections are under construction.
